Located near Five Points in downtown Barrie, we are a family-run business striving to bring a taste of the booming vintage market in Toronto to Barrie. Our aim is to offer cool vintage objects at more reasonable prices.

Mosquito Emporium started as Mosquito Woodworks antique furniture refinishing after owner Andy Thompson left the Canadian Army. “Mosquito” comes from the name of a Second World War airplane made of wood, which Andy’s grandfather helped build at the de Havilland Aircraft Company before joining the Royal Canadian Airforce.

Andy’s grandfather got him interested in woodworking. He had drawers and drawers of tools, and, when Andy was a child, he would show him the tools and explain how they worked.

Andy began the business bringing antique furniture back to their former glory, and that love of vintage objects grew into the creation of our store, Mosquito Emporium.

Made in Occupied Japan: Stamped in Time

At Mosquito Emporium, we don’t normally carry china or porcelain figurines and statues.  We do, however, enjoy finding items stamped with “Made in Occupied Japan” because its a snapshot of a time and place.
