Located near Five Points in downtown Barrie, we are a family-run business striving to bring a taste of the booming vintage market in Toronto to Barrie. Our aim is to offer cool vintage objects at more reasonable prices.
Mosquito Emporium started as Mosquito Woodworks antique furniture refinishing after owner Andy Thompson left the Canadian Army. “Mosquito” comes from the name of a Second World War airplane made of wood, which Andy’s grandfather helped build at the de Havilland Aircraft Company before joining the Royal Canadian Airforce.
Andy’s grandfather got him interested in woodworking. He had drawers and drawers of tools, and, when Andy was a child, he would show him the tools and explain how they worked.
Andy began the business bringing antique furniture back to their former glory, and that love of vintage objects grew into the creation of our store, Mosquito Emporium.
At Mosquito Emporium, we don’t normally carry china or porcelain figurines and statues. We do, however, enjoy finding items stamped with “Made in Occupied Japan” because its a snapshot of a time and place.
We had the honour of being chosen by 101 BIG FM as its BIG Business of the Week for Feb. 5-9! They treated us to a delicious catered lunch of sandwiches, cookies and coffee cake from Fox’s Bakery and Deli and plugged our little downtown shop on the radio throughout the week. We had BIG FM playing …
We had the fantastic Barrie-based photographer Laura Bainborough come by Mosquito Emporium recently to take some shots, and we are thrilled with the results!
